Not Nice Spice
![]() After completing X rounds of Beach Body’s 21 Day Fix I am finally seeing noticeable differences between the before and after photos. Every day I wanted to punch Autumn in the face or drag my body through the workouts at a pace that would give a sloth a run for his money. I decided to dig a little deeper when my coach (who is also my amazing SIL) gave me a pep talk in the challenge group- Oh, you’re not seeing results? You’re not toning up? It’s probably because you’re not doing the work! Ouch! That hurt! Actually, it didn’t, and that’s the point! After my workouts I didn’t feel sore. Not the next day, either. Sometimes I hardly broke a sweat. I decided to commit to investing in myself. Postpartum recovery is tougher in reality than on paper. Instead of trying to make it to the end of a workout round, I counted out each rep and even added an extra one or two. I found that when I told myself to not quit that meant I was able to do 30 pushups in a minute instead of the pathetic 12 (I mean I’m talking lady pushups folks!). And guess what- I didn’t die. Shocking. I was able to deliver naturally, without any medication but working out was too hard?! I needed to get real with myself. Let’s take it to another level now. Before starting this I was already eating 70/30 organic unprocessed, straight up good for you foods. The program allowed me to balance out my portions and reel in my carbs (I was eating Saltines like it was Y2K). But after struggling for weeks to eat enough proteins, I decided that I was going to cut out oats, rice, and rice pasta from my diet for 5 days and see where it led me. Well I found paradise! I dropped 3 pounds in 3 days and my postpartum BMs were feeling fabulous. I no longer need prune juice or obnoxious amounts of flax seed to keep me… um… moving. To keep this hot mess rolling I ordered a pair of fabulous Nikes, picked up cute yoga pants, and popping sports bras. While it’s still winter and cold and gross outside I’ll stick to this program with short walks with my little lady (1-2 miles). When the sun decides to show his face again I do believe I’ll be adding light jogging.
