Not Nice Spice
I bought gluten free (chickpea base) chocolate chip cookie dough a few weeks ago and ever since Chickadee has been asking for cookies. But, while I’m all for convenience, gluten free products get pricey. So we refreshed this avocado cookie recipe and it was a hit! We added cinnamon and vanilla, and I like that I can adjust the sugar while my kids are getting a solid amount of healthy fats. Check out the original recipe from Sprouted Fig, or enjoy our recipe below!

It’s easy not to see the good when you’ve conditioned yourself to watch out for all the bad. There’s always a bit of both, but losing sight of the goodness around us can quickly magnify even a small amount of negativity.
I didn’t set out with some intentional goal of making the summer memorable, or think of all the developmental benefits my kids would receive, or even make out a schedule to tick everything off. Instead I, very last minute, saw a social media ad for “Goat Story Hour” at our local library. I quickly brushed it off since it would be a lot to get everything together, our butts out the door and be on time. But then it hit me—we do the same low-key nothingness everyday. Which can be nice with little kids. They get to explore at their own pace and aren’t spending half their day in a car seat. And yet, somehow it was starting to come across as lazy parenting.
Is there anything more risky than having a favorite child?! Certainly a parenting faux pas, but I used to think that truly all parents had a favorite child. Now I know this is a sign of an immature parent. Parents who live on the surface level with their children. It’s easy as an exasperated, overworked, overtired parent to have a favorite—the one who is most compliant, quiet, obedient, cheerful. But in truth if we held ourselves to the same standards that we are inclined to hold our children to, wouldn’t we very quickly fall short of the favorite parent—road raging, grocery line grumbling, eye rolling, short fused, social media scrolling, leftover warming.
