Not Nice Spice
T-minus not a lot of days until the beach! I was so excited that my SIL decided to run a 3-day Beach Body detox group. But as the turning-thirty-luck would have it, the group was the same week as my birthday. And let’s be real- I wasn’t about to spend the week eating berries and fish. I pushed the detox to the week after and can confidently say it was well worth it (let me take a moment to daydream about the most incredible strawberry shortcake I ever had). Overall, the detox plan was fabulous! My biggest glitch was breastfeeding. I didn’t want too few calories and jeopardize my supply, but I recognized that this tends to turn into an excuse for me. So load up the healthy portions! I ended up having extra servings of tuna, cucumbers, carrots, berries, or apples. I tried to act smart enough to not over indulge on things like nuts and avocado (healthy fats), but let’s be real—no one is eating half an avocado! The first day was a breeze, but the second and third left me with MAJOR headaches. I ended up having a cup of coffee (with a quarter cup of almond milk, so sue me), but it didn’t budge. I dowsed myself with cup after cup of water, still with no avail. In an ideal world I would have no job or baby and would just sleep through the headache to make it through the measly three days. Since that isn’t my reality, I ended up having the most incredible chocolate chip cookies and pounded the biggest chicken dinner of my life. The cookie was unsuccessful with curing the headache (so shocking), but after some quinoa-pesto chicken with a massive salad the headache was long gone. While the worst part was portion sizing and low calories, there were so many amazing benefits. I was annoyed prepping the first batch of detox waters, but drinking this first thing in the morning really woke up every cell in my body. So delicious! It also made me realize that even though we hardly have starches or carbs, loading up in other areas isn’t necessarily a better choice. Now my grocery list has 3 fish dinner recipes served over salad or quinoa. Snacking on PB and bananas is healthy and filling, but can easily leave me feeling bloated. A change in mindset is always the best result! Here are the recipes and grocery list and, but be sure to check out my SIL’s Beach Body page (Jessi Wicks) to sign up for her latest challenges!
