Not Nice Spice
Before I became a mother I thought I had parenting all figured out—don’t we all? I had decades of childcare and teaching, cared for infants to middle schoolers; taught special education, preschool, middle and high school, supported college students and adults furthering education; and I helped support parents of all faiths and relationships in caring for their children. With such diverse experience I would have thought I could piece together something that would fit our family. But I couldn’t. And poor Stud thought I could just wing it. But I couldn’t. I was able to manage a few F-yous, crappy dinners, and a shower at least once a week.
So with Baby #3 on final countdown I asked a few fellow mamas to share their experience. What I love about all of them is that there aren’t two that are the same! Parenthood is more like a white-elephant Christmas party. It’s really exciting, slightly hilarious, and sometimes you find yourself thinking someone got something better than you. You might have survived all-nighters in college, but being up all night with a colic baby or a night owl is far less thrilling. Over the next few months I’m excited to be sharing friends’ and family members’ birth stories. My hope is to give new mamas a little insight into the never-ending possibilities of becoming a parent. Check back weekly for a new story!
