Not Nice Spice
My little heart is breaking… with excitement!!! Chickadee is going to school—yahooooo! I’m sure that I’ll sob the weeks leading up to it and probably afterward as I get my 3 babes, three and under in the car every morning, attempting to have my act slightly together. But it’s time for this birdie to fly the coop! Stud and I are excited to have found a formal school setting that is truly a perfect fit for her. However, realizing that she’ll be formally assessed does have me on edge. We haven’t practiced formal schooling and in today’s day and age there’s plenty of pressure on young learners to preform. Chickadee regularly surprises me while we’re out, as she recognizes letters and numbers, colors, objects, and animals among other things. Since moving into our first home this spring, she has spent ample time exploring, creating, discovering, collecting, and demolishing everything and anything. It’s been incredible because you get to witness your child accomplish things that you would have never imagined. So on top of all this goodness, we’re adding basic concepts in a more formal setting. Until I have the results of her assessment, I’ve dusted off some basic preschool prep workbooks I grabbed back in September. I use the books merely to guide an overall concept and then spend the rest of the week applying it into daily life or current events. For example, looking at more and less we’ll do a little art project with pompoms creating a snowy scene. Last week we looked at long and short with winter scarves and big and small snowmen. Then, throughout the week (and beyond) we continue to explore and utilize these concepts. This week we’re going to add in specific themed books alongside her regular favorites. That means Chickadee is getting her very own library card! I cannot believe she’s this grown up!!! WEEK ONE! This week we are focusing on: 1. Things that are the BIG and SMALL 2. Differentiating between LONG and SHORT 3. The letter ‘S’ WEEK TWO! This week we are focusing on: 1. Things that are the SAME 2. Differentiating between MORE and LESS 3. The letter ‘M’ ![]() Other areas of focus:
