Not Nice Spice
Sitting here I’m flooded with back-to-school pictures and “bouquets of sharpened pencils.” I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am a little saddened that we aren’t sending our kids to school this year. Instead we are opening our home and hearts to the possibility that we have more to offer our kids than we ever thought possible. You can’t even describe this decision as a 180, because it’s so much more than a new direction. It wasn’t even in our realm of thinking when we had Chickadee four years ago. Especially considering we had our back-to-school countdown started when she was four days old (colic baby, Lord, help us!). As we were pushed into this direction, with New York State’s removal of religious freedoms, and moved past our heartbreak, we settled into the thrill of a new adventure. Any good adventure needs some prep work and I began weeding through curriculum recommendations from ancient Facebook posts. Always a classy start! When I found The Peaceful Press I was finally able to put aside my emotional response and realize that homeschooling was something I could get behind with a good dose of umph! But a good curriculum is just a small percentage to homeschooling success. A satire piece I once read said that children behave 800% worse with their parents compared to other caretakers. Honestly, after parenting barely a handful of years I would say that statement could possibly be a missing portion of the Bible. The tangible aspects of homeschooling are the easy part, but what about the emotional, spiritual, psychological aspects? Having to manage all of the abstract aspects that begin to flood in--Can I actually do this? Pay no mind to my education, degrees, or experience because it all goes haywire when a mini me is having a meltdown. With my mind a bit swirly I reached out to homeschooling goddesses for guidance. Hearing their experiences and getting to see how they adapt homeschooling for their family puts my mind at ease. You take from here and there and cultivate within your children the absolute best of each of them. And it’s truly a beautiful thing! Check-in all month long and hear from these beautiful mamas and click their photograph to see what they do on the daily. Related:
