Not Nice Spice
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned, as a mom so far, is to truly and deeply appreciate another parent’s giftings. There are too many things to keep track of as parents today, there’s bound to be things we overlook, aren’t aware of or just are not able to manage. When I started following Elizabeth it was because of a recommendation from other homeschooling mamas. What I didn’t know was that God uses even the ridiculous (oh, social media!) to guide us to where we need to be. Not only does Elizabeth homeschool her three babes, she works as a nurse, has serious spiritual convictions and loves informing & educating others about common medical practices set for our children. On top of this she recently started using her natural giftings and delved into her entrepreneurial side—she sells fab elderberry kits! I definitely had a mini freak out moment when we decided to homeschool. But then I see the joy in homeschool families like Elizabeth’s, and I remember to slow down in these early moments. I needed a reminder to breathe in what’s surrounding me now as a mother. Why rush in the mornings waking my sleepy head, to essentially force feed her and WWE all three into their carseats (can we hear it for the moms with kids and their sloth like eating rituals?!)? Why send my children to learn from, well someone else’s mother or father? Why not invest into my own family in a deeply personal way? Every mama knows that there isn’t a single mama who has it all together. The moment we stop to acknowledge this and glean from those that raise others up, is when we can start counting the wins. I am a homeschooling mom to 3, ages 6,4 & 2. At our current season of life, homeschooling is such a blessing for us. I'm so thankful that in these formative years I can be the one to pour into my children. To teach them morals and values, without having to compete with influence from peers. I love that our mornings can be slow, with time to eat breakfast and snuggle on the couch for Bible time. I love that we can incorporate the younger ones into school lessons without them even knowing they are learning. I love that we can take an interest based lead and have the luxury to take the time to explore something that peaks interest, instead of being rushed to the next subject. I love that my children get one on one attention from me that they wouldn't get in the classroom. I love that I am the one who was there to witness my oldest learn to read. There are many reasons we homeschool, but the freedom it allows us to do these things is at the top.
